The S in the model designation can also stand for Single Pickup. And if you have to ask why it only has one pickup, this guitar is probably not for you.
For certain styles of playing there is no need for the extra complication of a second (or third) pickup. The player who will use and appreciate this model (and you know who you are) marches to his/her own drummer. If you ride a bicycle, chances are it’s a single speed; and if you skate you’re probably riding on a cruiser or long board. You get the idea, I think.
An additional – hidden, benefit of this single pickup configuration is that it eliminates the magnetic pull and interference of the pickup closest to the harmonic sweet spot of the strings, which will allow the bridge pickup to really sing, with more and richer harmonic content. Skeptical? The proof is in the tone.
This model of the SB series features a custom hand wound Righteous Sound “Lyom” model pickup, which offers tremendous clarity and dynamics for a high output pickup, and simply must be heard to be appreciated. Other standard features include individually selected pau ferro fretboard on a maple neck, with extra large frets – which are hand rounded and polished on the fret-ends for a premium playing feel; Hipshot mini locking tuners; Wilkinson VS-100 tremolo bridge; all black hardware; compact alder body with the best ergonomics in the business (in our opinion, of course); Schaller strap locks are pre-installed and included in the price. Paint is an automotive type premium metallic formulation with a choice of three colors .
The SB1-S model: offered with pride for your consideration and playing satisfaction, at US$2,250, including a custom fit Protec Contego hybrid case.
